Growing Use of Glyphosate In New Zealand
We haven’t reached America’s appalling statistics as yet for the tons of this poison per hectare sprayed on crops, however many of our farming practices are heading in the same direction. In addition to being a popular weed-killer, glyphosate (Roundup) is now widely used in New Zealand for another reason. Close to harvest time, this probable cause of cancer (according to the World Health Organization) is sprayed on our grains to help dry the seeds out. Hence it can be detected in all foods made directly from grains that have been sprayed. Glyphosate is a “gift” that just keeps on giving -a considerable percentage of the seed crops grown in NZ goes into making up stock-food for farm animals, including dairy cows. A further “gift” from Glyphosate is that it is water-soluble. Hence it concentrates as it washes into our agricultural and horticultural waterways, and on into our rivers. In many instances these same rivers are used for city/town supply. Glyphosate is now detected in human urine and breast-milk in many countries, all around the world.
