Gerry Douglas has successfully worked with hundreds of counselling clients using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy, better known as EMDR. This includes those who may be seeking help for a relationship challenge or crisis. In the mid to late 90s Gerry completed basic and advanced training with the founder of EMDR, Dr Francine Shapiro PhD, in the USA. He is registered as an EMDR Clinician with the EMDR Institute.  

Whilst Gerry provides EMDR therapy online, throughout NZ, those who see him face to face in Auckland for appointments have the added advantage of EMDR therapy being complemented by the use of Biofeedback and Neurofeedback. The application of these body and brain training technologies markedly increase the efficiency of resetting your natural capacity to self-heal.

How is EMDR Therapy Different?

EMDR therapy is different, because you don’t have to talk in detail about whatever traumatic experiences you have endured. EMDR restarts your natural capacity to self-heal. It does this by resetting aspects of neural functioning in your peripheral and central nervous systems, including parts of your brain. 

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy has been extensively researched, and proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. Over 100,000 clinicians throughout the world use EMDR. Millions of people have been treated successfully over the past 30 years.

 

Some Signs Your Natural Healing Process is Stuck 

  • Anger problems
  • Anxiety, and/or on-going worries
  • Hours spent computer gaming
  • Frequent viewing of pornography
  • Depression
  • Flashbacks of traumatic memory
  • Nightmares
  • Mood swings
  • Physical pain that has its origin in unresolved psychological stressors, adverse life events and trauma
  • PTSI and PTSD -Post Traumatic Stress Injury, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
